Terrance Dicks. Doctor Who The Mysterious Planet. W H Allen 1988. First Edition. Hard Cover. Signed by Subject. Very Good. This a first (and only) printing of the UK first hardback edition as indicated by the “W H Allen London 1988” statement on the title page and the lack of any subsequent printings / impressions on the copyright page. Pictorial boards (no DJ as issued), white endpapers. Tail of the spine ever so slightly crunched with a small spot rub. Head of spine somewhat flattened with some rubbing to the top edge. Front board clean, small rubs to the upper and lower corner tips, some sporadic pressure marks / lines and a small surface bump near the spine a couple of inches up from the bottom edge. Rear board clean with sharp edges, small rubs to the corner tips, some very fine pressure marks. Book has a very slight lean and the boards appear very slightly warped however this is clearly an unread copy. Internally clean showing no signs of previous ownership, store / library stamps etc. Edges of text block ever so lightly dust soiled. This novelization based upon the 1986 original screenplay by Robert Holmes. Overall a decent example of a very rare hardback edition. The Mysterious Planet was part of The Trial of a Time Lord season on television. This copy flat signed on the title page by Michael Jayston who played The Valeyard in the TV episodes (stated). One of the rarer Allen hardbacks and particularly uncommon signed by a star of the show. A nice item for any Who fan.
