Doctor Who Planet Of The Spiders Signed BS PB

Known to collectors as the “Virgin Blue Spine Edition” this a first printing of Target / Virgin reissue as indicated by the “Reprinted 1984, 1991” statement with the latter date indicating this edition. Whilst a “reprinted” statement would usually suggest a book is a later printing of an original publication this is in fact a new edition with a new title (the original “and the” has been dropped). Blue spine with the Elmes Logo banner and new artwork by Alister Pearson. Originally published by Target Books in 1980 (stated). Spine a touch rubbed at the head and tail with some minor sporadic rubbing to the front and rear spine hinges. Front cover clean and glossy showing a couple of minor pressure marks, some edge rubbing / wear, upper right corner tip slightly turned, lower right tip turned with some rubbing. Back cover very lightly soiled, some light edge rubbing, both corner tips ever so slightly turned and lightly rubbed, very faint slightly diagonal crease from top to bottom edges. Book stands nice and square appearing to have been carefully read. Internally, other than a small pencilled number on the half title, clean with no other signs of previous ownership, store / library stamps etc. Page edges show some age discolouration (I have had a couple of these – all the same). Edges of text block a touch dust soiled. One of a reported 9,000 copies printed (not sure if this figure includes any re-jacketed stock which was a common practice with these) this is one of the rarer blue spine tiles. This copy flat signed on the half title by Joanna Monro who played Rega (stated) in the TV episodes. Monro is probably best known as Anna Newcross in Angels and for a stint on That’s Life with Esther Rantzen. A great item for any Who fan and very unusual to find a copy signed by a star of the show!
