James Herbert. Shrine. New English Library 1983. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine / Very Good. This a first printing of the UK first edition as indicated by the “First published in Great Britain in 1983 by New English Library” statement with no subsequent printings/impressions mentioned. Sharp clean black boards with gold lettering to spine, white endpapers. Front board has a small indentation and head and tail of spine a touch flattened. Book stands square and appears unread, text block is clean though discoloured as is common due to the quality of the paper used – not as bad as some copies I have seen. Some foxing to the top edge. The DJ is okay, for the most part very clean with little if any fading to the spine (common fault) and £7.95 price intact on the front flap. There is a touch of minor creasing to the top edge and a half inch closed tear to the bottom edge of the back panel with some associated creasing. Nonetheless it presents nicely on the shelf. Truly fine copies of this edition are as scarce as hens teeth and command big bucks. This copy by no means the best but not too shabby either and presents a decent value alternative to a minter!
