Quake US Proof

Sold out

Richard Laymon. Quake. Thomas Dunne/St. Martins Press 1995. First Edition. Original Wraps. Galley/Proof. Very Good. This an uncorrected proof of the US first hardback edition published by St Martins Press in 1995. Pale grey wraps with black type. Front panel is clean, corner tips ever so slightly blunted, binding crease near spine hinge. Rear panel ever so lightly soiled. The spine is slightly concave which suggests this proof has been read however it is ever so tightly bound so I am not convinced and there are no obvious reading creases. Perhaps partially read at worst. The rear endpaper hasn’t been trimmed properly and sticks out from the bottom of the book! A senior publicist’s business card is stapled to the inside of the front cover as received. The text block is clean however as with many proofs from this period the ink used was quite heavy which leads to pages sticking together which when separated cause some ghosting of the text. This is evident in varying degrees from the title page to page 15 and at the rear from pages 357 to 375. Some of it is quite heavy and even after all these years the pages are still prone to sticking together. I imagine all copies will suffer to some extent however these proofs are so rare it is hard to be certain. In any event, a great find for the Laymon collector. REFC682
